07 June 2024

ESS, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, supported Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary by providing 4,200 meals at the D-Day 80 Commemoration this week.

2024 marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The main UK-based commemoration was held in Portsmouth, with The King and Queen and Prince of Wales in attendance.

ESS provided catering services to the Hampshire force, who played a key role in the run up to and throughout the event.

The ESS team supported from two locations, setting up a catering facility with a full servery and seating for up to 500 customers, and a mobile food van closer to the event. Across three days, the company served around 2,200 meals and 2,000 packed meals to personnel between the hours of 05:00 and 23:00.

Police colleagues were served meals including a full English breakfast, lighter breakfast options, a salad bar, butter chicken, meatballs in a tomato sauce, veggie chilli con carne, carrot cake and steamed chocolate sponge. Packed meals included sandwiches, savoury pastries and a range of snacks and drinks. Hot and cold drinks were provided throughout, and a variety of dietary requirements were catered for.

The catering was delivered by ESS’ Government Services sector which supports high-profile contracts across the police, secure environments, and local and central government, with clients including Thames Valley Police, the Metropolitan Police, Ministry of Defence, Department of Health, DVLA, Llywodraeth Cymru (Welsh Government) and Senedd Cymru (Welsh Parliament).

Ronnie Kelman, Managing Director – ESS Energy, Government & Infrastructure, added:

“We are proud to have supported Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary during the commemoration for such an important moment in our history. Our menu was designed to keep officers energised during their long shifts policing the event, with a variety of meal options and a range of dietary requirements catered for. Our teams were honoured to play their part.”
