ESS welcomed customers from the MOD Vegan & Vegetarian Network to Compass Group’s global headquarters in Chertsey this week.
Having established a partnership with the Network at the start of the year, ESS colleagues are working collaboratively to support members of the Armed Forces to maintain their chosen diet, lifestyle or ethical beliefs while in service.
Guests from the Defence Hindu Network and the Defence Rastafari Network were also in attendance.
The group enjoyed a varied agenda, including a discussion of what the partnership has achieved so far, showcases of a variety of food concepts and action planning for the next few months.
ESS chefs presented a plant-based Asian cuisine range for tasting which was followed by spotlights on supplier collaborations, including La Vie plant-based ‘bacon’, a Banh Mi offer developed in collaboration with Quorn and Santa Maria, and plant-based brownies made using OGGS Aquafaba. Guests were invited to provide their feedback on the dishes.
The event was a great opportunity for collaboration between ESS and the Network’s members and reinforced the joint commitment to delivering choice and guaranteeing inclusivity in Defence menus.
Scott Freeman, Culinary Director – ESS Defence, Marine & Aerospace, commented:
“It was fantastic to welcome members of the MOD Vegan & Vegetarian Network back to our head office and great to see some new faces present this time around. These are exciting times in the plant-based food space and working closely with our supply partners ensures we can offer customers the latest products on the market. I’d like to thank our suppliers for giving their time and expertise so generously, and our guests for their enthusiasm in the partnership.”
