ESS, the Defence, Energy and Government Services sector of Compass Group UK & Ireland, won the Sustainability Award at the recent Public Sector Catering Awards. The award recognised the company’s performance in the following areas:
Traceability, Provenance & Seasonality
- The processes in place to ensure farm-to-fork traceability for all products
- A British-first sourcing policy and work underway to increase UK sourcing
- Integration of in-season products from the UK during menu development
Staff Safety & Development
- The roll-out of See Care Share which saw the organisation train 5,750+ colleagues in eight-months, delivering the following improvements across the business:
- Increased internal social media activity relating to HSE
- 210% increase in proactive interactions: safety walks, hazard observations, near miss reporting
- 45% reduction in LTI and RIDDOR incidents year-on-year
- 5% reduction in overall incidents year-on-year
