Mark Webster
Managing Director ESS
Family is at the heart of pretty much everything I do. Not just my own family but the family of people I have the privilege of working with.
My early career was with KPMG, which gave me a solid practical foundation within business, but it was when I joined Compass in 2004 as Finance Manager in our education sector that I really started to see how finance and business was greater than processes and numbers - it could actually make a difference to people’s lives. Through Compass I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles with many business sectors and have seen that each one has its own personality and strengths.
In January 2018 I took the helm of ESS as Managing Director during a transformational time for the sector, as we were mobilising three large regional defence contracts. The scale of this mobilisation was unprecedented and a testament to all the teams and management involved. It’s a privilege to meet and work with our truly inspiring and committed people, whether it’s our teams on the ground, our support functions, other sectors across UK and Ireland or ESS around the world – each person brings something unique to the mix.
Working within the hospitality industry is both exciting and challenging, it never stands still and is full of opportunities and experiences for people who want them, and I’m immensely proud to see these individuals grow and mature within our industry.
I now live in Worcestershire with my wife Heidi and my children Lois and Max, not too far from Birmingham where I grew up, and while Balti might be classed as Birmingham’s dish, nothing measures up to fish & chips on the seashore with my family.
True to my Midlands roots, I’m a dedicated West Brom fan and, win or lose, time spent on the terraces watching a game with my dad, children, uncle and nephew are invaluable moments I will always treasure.
